Bachelor of Music — Music Theory

The undergraduate music theory curriculum follows a modular structure, giving Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs more flexibility and choice in how they progress through their studies.

All Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs begin by taking the Music Theory Diagnostic Exam, which determines their starting point:

  • MUS 120: Foundations of Western Music Theory – for Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs needing a stronger foundation
  • MUS 130: Diatonic and Chromatic Harmony – for Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs ready to move into more advanced topics

Both courses count toward the required music theory credits and are offered every fall and spring.

After completing MUS 130, Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs can choose from a rotating selection of upper-level music theory courses tailored to their interests and degree concentration.

Refer to the for details on specific theory requirements by program.
