Campus Safety Update
Dear members of the Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ community,
As you may know, one of our Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs was injured last week during an off-campus shooting across the street from Huger Hall. He is recovering at home with family members, and they have given us permission to report that he is doing well and is looking forward to returning to campus soon. We wish him a speedy recovery.
In the coming days, staff members from the Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ Affairs Division will meet with residents in Huger Hall to discuss last week's incident and answer any questions they may have. For other Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs and employees who may be unsettled by recent incidents, free counseling is available through the Counseling and Testing Center. You can schedule an appointment by calling (337) 482-6480 or emailing counseling@louisiana.edu.
The campus is protected by a significant surveillance system and a well-trained, professional police department, and the Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ also works closely with local law enforcement partners.
In addition, here are some steps you can take to help ensure a safe campus environment.
- Always be aware of your surroundings.

Finally, if you observe suspicious activity or unsafe conditions, call Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ Police immediately at (337) 482-6447, by dialing 911 from any Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ phone, or by pressing the call button on a Code Blue emergency phone. You can also report anonymous tips to Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ Police at (337) 482-2TIP (2-2847) or through the Guardian app.
Maintaining a safe and supportive environment in which to learn, work and live remains our top priority, and each of us plays an important role in promoting safety – both for ourselves and for the wider Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ community.
Thank you,
Dr. Joseph Savoie
