Are You a Summer Scholar?

The Center for Gifted Education at the Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ of Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ at Lafayette will once again provide an enriching program for Summer 2007. According to past participants, this is the best program available for middle school Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs.

The Summer Scholars residential program is a week-long program for Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs in the 7th - 9th grade. This year Summer Scholars will be held June 10 - 15 and 17 - 22. Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs can sign up for either week.

The Summer Scholars program identifies and nurtures academically gifted Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs. Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs choose daily classes from a variety of academic and arts areas, as well as a course in leadership. To qualify for this program, a Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ must present satisfactory scores on a standardized test of mental ability or academic achievement. Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs who are classified as academically gifted by state standards automatically qualify for the program.

The program has proven highly successful, with both participants and their parents reporting increases in academic motivation, self-concept and creative production. All Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ residents receive a discount on tuition and more scholarship funds for tuition are available for Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs whose families qualify on the basis of financial need.
