Almost $2.1 million in scholarships has been doled out to 343 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs at 13 area schools in recent weeks.
The scholarships were given as part of UL Lafayette’s Academic Signing program.
Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs who have been offered an academic scholarship from the university are invited to a signing ceremony that takes place at their high school.
Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵ officials visit the schools for the signing ceremonies, which are attended by teachers, parents and other family members.
Scholarship recipients sign a certificate of intent, have their photograph taken and receive a gift from the university.
The combined average ACT score of all Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs who received scholarships was 25.8 and the combined average GPA was 3.62.
The total number of Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs and scholarship amounts awarded at each school is:
• Abbeville – Six Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $9,000 in scholarships
• Acadiana – 28 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $123,000 in scholarships
• Carencro – 15 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $52,000 in scholarships
• Catholic High, New Iberia – 14 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $40,000 in scholarships
• Episcopal School of Acadiana – Two Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $12,000 in scholarships
• Kaplan – Five Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $12,000 in scholarships
• Lafayette – 96 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $837,000 in scholarships
• New Iberia Senior High – 24 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $143,000 in scholarships
• North Vermilion – Eight Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $29,000 in scholarships
• Notre Dame – 20 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $91,000 in scholarships
• Ovey Comeaux – 45 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $145,000 in scholarships
• St. Thomas More – 69 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $364,000 in scholarships
• Teurlings Catholic – 41 Ìð¹ÏÊÓƵs received $211,000 in scholarships
