This doctoral program is designed to produce research professors for colleges and universities and/or researchers for schools, clinics, and hospitals. The program studies communication processes, language use and acquisition, communication disorders, and related areas. Applicants will normally hold the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and the CCC-SLP, but individuals with master's degrees in related areas and exceptional Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµs with bachelor's degrees are welcome.

Theoretical Foundations & Applications
Further your understanding of the nature of communicative disorders, and of the various contexts of language learning, such as first and second language acquisition. Fields of study include theoretical semiotics (the study of signs), linguistics, phonetics and phonology, and interaction studies such as ethnography, discourse and conversation analysis.
Innovative Research
Participate in active research agendas through graduate seminars, the Research Colloquium, and your own development of a personal research and publication agenda within active areas of faculty expertise. Faculty and graduate Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµs collaborate to design evidence-based assessment and intervention practices at the cutting edge of innovation.
Clinical Resources
Our Speech Language and Hearing Center provides more than 10,000 hours of speech, language, and hearing services to a wide variety of individuals with communication challenges and differences. An abundance of off-site settings in hospitals and external clinics provide additional research opportunities.
Graduate Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµ Organization
As a UL Lafayette graduate Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµ, you are automatically enrolled as a member of the Graduate Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµ Organization (GSO). The GSO plays a pivotal role in representing the needs and concerns of its members to the Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµ administration. The GSO has departmental representatives and a group of Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµ officers that meet regularly to address pressing issues affecting graduate Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµs as well as actively participate in influential Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµ bodies. The GSO is in charge of allocating Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµ-assessed fees and the organization offers funding opportunities for graduate Ìð¹ÏÊÓÆµs.
